Ravettine Qualifies for Olympic Trials, Places 17th at Nationals

Liberty sophomore Brye Ravettine swam a 25.99 in the 50-meter freestyle on Thursday, qualifying her for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Liberty sophomore Brye Ravettine placed 17th in the women's 50-meter freestyle on Thursday at the 2011 AT&T USA Swimming Winter National Championships, held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.

Ravettine's lifetime-best clocking of 25.99, achieved during Thursday night's B final of the 50 free, qualifies her to compete in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. The Olympic Trials will take place June 25 through July 2, in Omaha, Neb. The women's 50-meter freestyle is scheduled to take place on July 1.

A native of Mahwah, N.J., Ravettine finished with the 19th-fastest time out of 111 competitors in the morning's preliminaries. She qualified for the B final with a then-personal-best 26.14 during her preliminary swim, and placed seventh in the B final Thursday night.

Ravettine earned four points for Liberty in this week's meet, and is the first member of the Liberty swimming team to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials.

Bethany Wakeley swam a time trial of the 100-meter butterfly Thursday afternoon, covering two lengths of the pool in 1:03.41.`Wakeley will compete in the women's 100-meter butterfly preliminary round on Friday morning, while Ravettine will contest a time trial of the 50 free in the afternoon.
