Liberty might have had its eight-win season streak snapped this year, but the 2011 football Flames extended Liberty's winning season run to a program-best six years in a row. The Flames have finished with a winning record each season under head coach Danny Rocco.

Liberty finished the 2011 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Big South play, closing out the second most successful senior class run in program history. This year's group of 17 graduates captured three Big South titles (2008, 2009 and 2010), posted a 33-12 overall record, were 20-3 in Big South play and 12-0 against Big South foes inside of Williams Stadium.

The Flames continued to be considered one of the Top 25 FCS programs in the country throughout the 2011 season, receiving a Top 25 listing nine times out of the 13 weeks the national rankings were issued (including the preseason rankings). In the final regular-season listings, Liberty was ranked No. 23 in the FCS Coaches poll and No. 24 in the Sports Network/Fathead.com listing.
