The Liberty swimming team sits atop the team standings after day one at the Radford Invitational, held Thursday at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.

Liberty's strong opening day came after the Lady Flames had earned recognition from CollegeSwimming.com earlier on Thursday. Liberty is listed among "others receiving consideration" in the season's first Mid-Major Division I Ranking.

The Lady Flames scored 234 points on the day and lead second-place Campbell by 38 points. Georgia Southern (181 points), North Florida (162) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (146) round out the top half of the 10-team field.

Liberty jumped into the lead by scoring 40 points via its win during the 200 free relay. The Lady Flames clocked a season-best 1:36.24, defeating the closest competitor by more than two seconds. Cori Gary, Brye Ravettine, Chloe Thomas and Marley Cripe swam on the winning 200 free relay team.

Ravettine led a dominating performance by Liberty in the 50 free, winning the A final in a time of 23.53. Marley Cripe followed in third place with a 24.21. The team placed six swimmers in the top eight during the 50 free, earning 86 team points in that event alone.

The 200 individual medley program record was lowered for the third meet in a row, as Emily Duff swam a 2:09.68 to place fourth in the finals. Erin Curry also broke the existing record of 2:10.74 by taking sixth place in 2:10.31.

The Lady Flames will return for day two of the Radford Invitational on Friday. The second day begins at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary rounds of the 400 IM. Finals will be contested starting at 6 p.m. at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.
