Lady Flames Earn 151-111 Win at Campbell

Freshman Emily Duff lowered her program-record time in the 1000 free, and broke the 200 IM record as well, in helping Liberty down Campbell on Friday.

Liberty extended its season-opening winning streak to three meets, claiming victory by a 151-111 margin over CCSA opponent Campbell, Friday in Buies Creek, N.C.

The Lady Flames have now concluded the dual-meet portion of their fall schedule at 3-0, while Campbell records is now an even 6-6. Liberty holds a 2-0 record in conference meets, while Campbell is 4-3 against CCSA foes.

For the third week in a row, Liberty earned victory in both relay swims. The Lady Flames' A team, consisting of Brye Ravettine, Erin Curry, Bethany Wakeley and Cori Gary, won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:49.75. The Liberty quartet of Rachel Nelson, Sarah McCorkle, Gary and Ravettine swam a 1:37.92 to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Liberty won seven out of 12 individual races, with the Lady Flames posting high finishes throughout the program. The Camels earned victory in both breaststroke distances, along with the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle.

Three Liberty records were broken or matched on Friday.

Emily Duff improved her own school record in the 1000 free to 10:40.44, earning second place behind Cheriesse Campbell. Duff (2:10.74), Erin Curry (2.11.78) and Jennifer Garzinski (2:16.23) all swam faster than Curry's previous program-record 200 IM swim of 2:16.35, set last Friday against Radford.

Curry matched her own program record in the 200 backstroke, swimming 2:08.32 to touch the wall first.

Ravettine earned victory in the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.49. She also led a 1-2-3 Liberty sweep in the 50 free, with a 24.11 clocking. Gary then won the 100 freestyle in a team season-best 53.43.

Marley Cripe placed first in the 100 butterfly, swimming 59.29. Wakeley posted her fastest 200 butterfly time so far this season, winning by nearly five seconds with a 2:09.33.

Liberty will next compete in the Radford Invitational, to be held Nov. 17-19 at the Dedmon Center Natatorium in Radford, Va.
