Liberty Swimming Travels to Face Campbell, Friday
Liberty travels to Buies Creek, N.C., where the Lady Flames will meet CCSA opponent Campbell on Friday at 5 p.m.
The Lady Flames and Camels competed against each other during Liberty's first-ever swimming meet, on Oct. 2, 2010 in the LaHaye Aquatics Center. Campbell won that matchup, 111-94, and also defeated Liberty in the Davidson Duals last season.
Liberty finished ahead of Campbell during the 2011 CCSA Championships, as the Lady Flames earned sixth place and the Camels posted an eighth-place standing.
This season, Liberty has won its first two dual meets, including a 147-141, come-from-behind win Oct. 22 at Marshall and a 172-116 victory over Radford this past Friday. The Lady Flames defeated Radford during its lone home meet of the season, winning 13 out of 14 events contested.
Freshman Erin Curry was named CCSA Swimmer of the Week for Oct. 26. Curry has set program records in the 200 backstroke (2:08.32), the 200 individual medley (2:16.35) and in the 400 individual medley (4:34.95) already this season. Classmate Emily Duff posted a new Liberty record by clocking 10:53.05 in the 1000 freestyle at Marshall.
Eight different Liberty swimmers have registered individual event victories this season. The Lady Flames have swept the top two spots in both relays during each meet so far. Liberty swimmers have won both races of the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 100 back in 2011.
In addition to her three record-breaking swims, Curry has won races in the 1000 free and 200 breaststroke. Cori Gary has claimed victory in the 50, 100 and 200 free once each this season. Duff, Brye Ravettine and Bethany Wakeley all have posted victories in two events during 2011.
Campbell holds a 6-5 record, including a 4-2 CCSA mark. The Camels defeated College of Charleston and Queens on Oct. 15, in their only home meet to date this season. Most recently, the Camels went 1-3 this past weekend, in meets at Georgia Southern and North Florida.
Campbell features the sophomore quartet of Cheriesse Campbell, Charlotte Cornet, Kaitlyn Burnette and Kylie Warne.
Cornet was named CCSA Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 19 after winning both breaststroke races during Campbell's home meet. Campbell holds four individual program records, while Burnette owns three Campbell standards. Warne and Campbell have both been standouts at the distance free events.
Following Friday's meet, the Lady Flames will close their 2011 fall schedule by competing in the Radford Invitational, scheduled for Nov. 17-19 at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.
