Sophomore forward Sommy Ogukwe will miss the entire 2011-12 season due to injury.

Liberty Head Men's Basketball Coach Dale Layer has announced that forward Sommy Ogukwe will miss the entire 2011-12 season due to injury. The sophomore suffered the injury during practice this past Saturday.

"This is a tough blow in many ways," Layer stated. "Sommy had been playing the best he has in his career. We will miss him sorely on the floor. He has a great spirit and will handle this the right way in turning this into a positive. Our support and prayers go with him."

The injury to Ogukwe marks the second offseason setback for the Flames, as redshirt senior guard John Brown sustained a season-ending injury, last month.

Ogukwe appeared in 30 contests for the Flames last season, starting in games against Notre Dame (Nov. 14) and UNC Wilmington (Nov. 16). The Abuja, Nigeria native was a key reserve for Layer's squad, finishing second on team in blocked shots with 22.
