Charlotte of the Atlantic-10 Conference dealt Liberty its first home defeat of the season Tuesday evening. The visiting 49ers utilized an efficient attack, hitting .415 as a team in their 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-24) victory at the Vines Center. 

The loss, which ended a four-match home winning streak for the Lady Flames, drops the home team's season record to 7-15. Charlotte's seventh win in its last eight starts lifts the 49ers record to 18-9. 

Outside of a 2-2 tie, the visitors led for all of the first game. Cori Dayton starred for Charlotte in its 30-22 victory, posting six kills and nine digs. Autum Black (Sr., MB, Mingoville, Pa.) hit .800 in the opening game, recording kills on four of her five attack attempts, but it was not enough for the Lady Flames. 

Liberty turned things around and was able to control much of game two. A service ace by junior right-side hitter Mary Alice Pike (Durham, N.C.) punctuated an 8-2 run that gave the home team an early 10-5 advantage. 

The Lady Flames' last lead of game two came at 23-22, after Kendall Nichols (So., OH, Hoover, Ala.) put away a kill. Charlotte ended the middle game by recording eight of the final 10 points to pull out a 30-25 decision. Lynae Mulder, who had a game-high seven kills for the 49ers and hit .778 in the stanza, used one of her kills to give Charlotte the lead for good at 25-24. 

Coach Shane Pinder's Lady Flames got off to another quick start in game three, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Liberty was ahead, 11-7, when Charlotte put together a decisive run. The 49ers put together a 16-6 surge, keyed by three Alma Arroyo kills. Two of those three assists were provided by Eden Ramos, who tallied 21 assists in the final game. 

Arroyo finished the third game with eight kills, helping the visitors hit .500. Meanwhile, Alysson Sanders (R-So., OH, Bear, Del.) hit .625 with five kills, but was unable to prevent Liberty from suffering a 30-24 setback. 

The Lady Flames had three players record double-digit kills, led by Sanders and Black with 11 apeice. Pike added 10 kills of her own. Freshman setter Kallie Corbin (Beaverton, Ore.) notched 39 assists and a team-high 14 digs. Lara Bartolomeo (Jr., S/DS, Huntington Beach, Calif.) chipped in with 11 digs. 

Four Charlotte players ended up with 10 or more kills. Cori Dayton led the way with a double-double, posting 17 kills and 13 digs. Arroyo totaled 16 kills. Claire Crumpton hit .588 and came up with 11 kills and a match-high five blocks. Mulder finished with 10 kills. Ramos had 57 total assists and libero Carly Romberg led all players with 19 digs. 

The Lady Flames will play contest two of a six-match homestand Friday evening at 7 p.m. Liberty returns to Big South action as it hosts UNC Asheville (9-14, 7-2 Big South). Charlotte will travel to George Washington on Nov. 2 for a conference tilt against the Colonials.
