Sophomore Caleb Edmonds came in 30th at the Charlotte Invitational, helping Liberty place an impressive second in the men's team standings.

An impressive runner-up performance at Friday's Charlotte Invitational enabled the Liberty men's cross country team to leapfrog from unranked to the No. 10 spot in the Southeast Region. The regional polls were announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Head coach Brant Tolsma's Flames are the only Big South Conference squad to appear in this week's Southeast Region men's rankings. Tar Heel State and ACC rivals N.C. State and North Carolina are ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

Liberty scored 86 points at the Charlotte Invitational to place second out of 34 teams. The Flames defeated three regionally-ranked teams in the process, including Wake Forest (No. 13 Southeast), Georgia Tech (No. 7 South) and Furman (No. 14 Southeast).

The Flames were led by the front-running trio of Zac Edwards, David Ricksecker and Josh MacDonald, all of whom finished in the top 13 overall. Edwards won the 8K race in a time of 24:08.7, marking the redshirt junior's second individual victory in a row. He was also victorious at the Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview on Sept. 17.

Liberty will take a weekend off from competition before its final tune-up meet for the Big South Cross Country Championships. The Flames and Lady Flames will travel up Route 29 to Charlottesville, Va., on Oct. 14 to compete in the Panorama Farms Invitational.

Hosted by Virginia, the afternoon meet will begin at 4 p.m. with the women's 6K race. The men's 8K will follow at 4:45 p.m.
