Liberty redshirt junior Zac Edwards has been tabbed the ECAC Division I Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, after winning the individual title at Saturday's Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview.

Edwards is Liberty's first cross country runner ever to earn the ECAC's weekly award. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is the nation's largest athletic conference, consisting of 88 Division I schools primarily along the East Coast. Along with the Big South, the ECAC also features members from such conferences as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), BIG EAST, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and the Ivy League.

In just his second race as a Flame, the transfer from South Alabama posted his first individual victory in a Liberty uniform. Edwards covered the 8K course in a time of 24:42, placing him 15 seconds ahead of race runner-up Patrick Crawford from High Point.

Edwards' effort led the Flames to a 25-40 upset victory over High Point in the final team standings. The Panthers were picked to win this year's Big South title and ranked in the USTFCCCA Southeast Region poll before Saturday's race.

Liberty's next race will be the Charlotte Invitational, scheduled for Sept. 30 at McAlpine Park. The gun for the women's 5K will go off at 4 p.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 4:30 p.m.
