The 2011-12 Liberty women's basketball schedule was announced today, featuring 14 home games. The slate is also highlighted by an appearance at the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament and Commonwealth road clashes at Virginia and Richmond.

The Lady Flames will play at least seven games against opponents who played in either the NCAA or WNIT tournaments a year ago. They will also match up with in-state foes on eight occasions.

Liberty will travel down Route 29 to Greensboro, N.C. each of the first two Fridays of the season, taking on UNC Greensboro (Nov. 11) and North Carolina A&T (Nov. 18). Those two games sandwich the Lady Flames' home opener versus VCU on Nov. 15. The Rams went 19-12 in 2010-11, earning a spot in the WNIT field.

Two nights before Thanksgiving (Nov. 22), the Lady Flames will host Virginia-Wise for the first time since Nov. 28, 1994, when the college was known as Clinch Valley.

Liberty will then prepare for arguably the toughest two-week stretch of the season, beginning with the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament, Nov. 25-26. The Lady Flames' first-round opponent is Oklahoma, which reached the Sweet 16 of last year's NCAA Tournament.

Depending on the first day's results, Liberty will match up against either Vanderbilt or Lipscomb on day two. The host Commodores also played in the 2011 NCAA Tournament after a 20-win season.

The Lady Flames open the month of December by welcoming reigning CAA champion James Madison to the Vines Center on Dec. 1. It will mark the sixth straight season the Commonwealth rivals have squared off on the hardwood.

Liberty's challenging stretch will draw to a close Dec. 7, when the Lady Flames head to Virginia. The Cavaliers advanced to the WNIT quarterfinals a year ago.

Liberty will bookend finals week with a pair of home games, hosting Glenville State on Dec. 10 and Virginia Union five days later. The Glenville State tilt will be the first of the Lady Flames' two home doubleheaders with the Liberty men's basketball team on the season.

The Lady Flames' final two December contests will be played on the road within the Commonwealth, beginning with a Dec. 20 clash at 2011 WNIT qualifier Richmond. It will be Liberty's first game against the Spiders since Jan. 5, 2008.

Liberty will then play its first New Year's Eve game since Dec. 31, 2004 when the Lady Flames tip off Big South Conference play at Radford.

Big South home games against High Point (Jan. 7) and Campbell (Jan. 9) will be Liberty's first contests in the calendar year 2012. The Lady Flames will match up with new Big South member Campbell for the first time since Nov. 29, 1999, which was Carey Green's third game as Liberty's head coach.

Liberty's annual South Carolina beach trip will take the Lady Flames to Coastal Carolina on Jan. 14 and Charleston Southern on Jan. 16. Liberty has posted 36 consecutive wins against Coastal Carolina, while the Lady Flames will be attempting to avenge a road loss at CSU from the 2010-11 campaign. It will be the 50th all-time meeting between the Lady Flames and Buccaneers.

After a quick Big South homestand against Presbyterian College (Jan. 21) and Winthrop (Jan. 23), the Lady Flames will embark upon their longest road trip of the season.

Liberty's first of two consecutive weekend trips to North Carolina takes the Lady Flames to UNC Asheville (Jan. 28) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 30). Liberty's 50th game against Asheville will be the Lady Flames' first inside the Bulldogs' brand-new Kimmel Arena. Two days later, the Lady Flames will renew a burgeoning rivalry with Gardner-Webb, which has seen the teams square off in the last three Big South Championship title contests.

The next weekend, Liberty will play at Campbell (Feb. 4) for the first time since Dec. 5, 1998 and at High Point (Feb. 6), the site of the Big South Women's Basketball Championship for the fourth straight season.

Liberty will then return home to the Vines Center for five of its final seven regular-season games. The stretch begins with clashes against Charleston Southern on Feb. 11 and Coastal Carolina on Feb. 13.

The Lady Flames' last regular-season road trip will see the team visit the Palmetto State for matchups with Winthrop (Feb. 18) and Presbyterian College (Feb. 20). Liberty and Winthrop will be squaring off for the 50th time.

Liberty will then welcome Gardner-Webb (Feb. 25), UNC Asheville (Feb. 27) and Radford (March 2) to Lynchburg to close out the regular season. The Gardner-Webb game is the lid-lifter for a doubleheader with the Liberty men's basketball squad, while the Radford contest will mark the Lady Flames' Senior Night recognition.

As previously mentioned, High Point will host the Big South Women's Basketball Championship for the fourth year in a row, March 9-11 at the Millis Center in High Point, N.C.

The tournament champion will earn the Big South's automatic bit to the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, which is slated to tip off with first-round contests on March 17-18.
