Freshman Jacy Christiansen was the Lady Flames' top finisher at the season-opening Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational, placing fourth overall.

The Liberty women's cross country team is ranked No. 12 in the Southeast Region for the second straight poll, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Head coach Brant Tolsma's Lady Flames are the only Big South Conference squad to appear in this week's mostly unchanged Southeast Region women's rankings. ACC teams still own seven of the region's top eight spots, led by No. 1 Duke and No. 2 North Carolina.

Liberty has run just one race so far this season, the non-team scored Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Sept. 2. Even though top returnees Jennifer Klugh and Khristina Kanagy sat out the race, the Lady Flames were still able to put four runners in the top 10.

Leading the way was Jacy Christiansen, who made an impressive collegiate debut. She covered the challenging 4K course in a time of 15:43.13 for fourth place. Behind her, sophomore Katie Russo was sixth, junior Betel Yosef was seventh and freshman Stephanie Buda was 10th.

Liberty will return to action Saturday morning, when the Flames and Lady Flames travel to Conway, S.C. The teams will be able to preview the Big South Cross Country Championships course at Coastal Carolina's Quail Creek Golf Club.

The Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview will begin with the men's 8K at 8:30 a.m. The women's 5K race will follow at 9:15 a.m.
