Sophomore outside hitter Lillie Happel earned her second career Big South Player of the Week award after leading the Lady Flames to a team championship at the Liberty Invitational presented by Pepsi.

Liberty sophomore outside hitter Lillie Happel has been named Big South Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 5-11. Happel helped the Lady Flames earn the team championship with three wins at the Liberty Invitational presented by Pepsi, earning the tournament MVP award in the process.

The Ellicott City, Md., native claims the second conference player of the week award of her career, as she was also honored Nov. 15, 2010. She is the first Big South player since Liberty's Kallie Corbin in 2006 and 2007 to be tabbed conference player of the week as both a freshman and a sophomore.

In addition, Radford's Emma Deininger was named Freshman of the Week, and Alex Stewart of UNC Asheville claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Happel, who leads the Big South in kills, averaged 4.11 kills per set while hitting .289 during the Liberty Invitational presented by Pepsi. Her eight aces led all players at the event, aiding Liberty's 22-ace onslaught over three matches, and she also totaled six blocks on the weekend.

She opened the tournament with 16 kills, three aces and five digs in a 3-0 win over Rider. Happel then added a match-high 14 kills to go with a career-high-tying four block assists, three aces and seven digs against Saint Francis (Pa.). Her kill on match point clinched Liberty's sweep of CSU Bakersfield in Saturday's championship match, giving her seven kills on the afternoon.

The Lady Flames (4-6) return to the court Friday when they take on N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C. at 7 p.m., opening the Courtyard Midtown Invitational. Liberty will then face Towson and The Citadel on Saturday to wrap up its final regular-season tournament.
