Field Hockey to Host Rider on Monday
On Friday, Liberty field hockey head coach Jodi Murphy announced that the Lady Flames will add another home game to the 2011 slate, as the team will host Rider, Monday, Sept. 5.
The Broncos will travel to Lynchburg for a 1 p.m. contest on Labor Day, after defeating Appalachian State, 7-1, Sunday in a neutral site contest hosted by James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. Rider was able to schedule the game with Liberty after having to cancel a contest due to Hurricane Irene last week.
With the Sunday afternoon win, the Brocos are 3-0 on the season, and are averaging six goals per game. Senior Virginia Egusquiza and sophomore Sandra Penas have paced Rider thus far, with each posting four goals and two assists. Meanwhile, junior Marlaine Schneider has chipped in with three goals and four assists on the season, tying Penas and Egusquiza for the team lead in points, with 10.
The Lady Flames are coming off a 3-1 defeat to Radford, Saturday, to open their inaugural season. Freshman Helen Doolittle notched Liberty's goal, while Ann Jefferis defended the cage, posting 13 saves in the contest.
