The Liberty men's track & field squad won its unprecedented 14th consecutive Big South indoor team championship in 2011.

The Liberty men's track & field team has been named a 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team, it was announced today.

Head coach Brant Tolsma's Flames earned the recognition by virtue of posting a cumulative team GPA above 3.00 for the 2010-11 academic year. Liberty was one of 90 squads in the nation and the only Big South Conference member to make the list.

Leading the way for Liberty academically was the quartet of Josh Edmonds, Elliot Galeone, Kolby Shepherd and Geren Woodbridge. All four Flames were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team last week. In addition, Edmonds and Galeone made the Big South All-Academic Team for indoor and outdoor track & field, respectively. In total, 29 team members were included on the 2010-11 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

Liberty also excelled in competition this past year. The Flames tied Illinois, Texas and USC for 12th place at the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, marking Liberty's highest finish ever at an NCAA national meet.

At the conference level, the Flames swept the Big South men's indoor and outdoor track & field team titles for the fifth straight year. Additionally, Liberty tied for second place at the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships and took eighth place at the IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
