First set of lights are put in place at Osborne Stadium and Matthes - Hopkins Track Complex this morning.

The installation of new lighting began this morning at Osborne Stadium and the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, as a work crew affixed the first of four light systems to its pole.

Once completed, the new lighting system will be a major upgrade for the facility. Produced by Musco Sports Lighting Company, the new system will be in place and operational by Aug. 15.

The lighting project is just one of several improvements to the Liberty soccer and track facility over the past two years. The facility has seen an addition of the Luurtsema Center, the base of operations for Flames men's and women's soccer and track & field programs, a video scoreboard, a press box and a 1,000-seat grandstand.

The Liberty Lady Flames soccer team opens its 2011 home schedule on Aug. 29 against the Longwood Lancers at 7 p.m. The following night, the Liberty Flames men's soccer team will host Longwood at 7 p.m. in its first home contest of the year.
