Recent Liberty graduate Sam Chelanga made a very successful professional running debut Sunday morning, taking fourth place in the inaugural B.A.A. 10K on the streets of Boston.

Only two weeks after wrapping up his stellar collegiate career and still donning his Liberty Flames uniform, Chelanga went toe-to-toe with some of the world's best distance runners. His official time of 28:31 trailed only the top three finishers from this April's Boston Marathon, out of a field of approximately 4,000 entrants. For his efforts, Chelanga garnered a $1,000 prize check.

Reigning Boston Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya enjoyed a dominating performance on Sunday, as his 27:19 clocking put him 52 seconds ahead of runner-up Gebre Gebremariam from Ethiopia. Kenya's Moses Mosop edged Chelanga for third place by just two seconds, crossing the finish line in 28:29.
