Kolby Shepherd has now been named Big South Men's Field Athlete of the Week five times this season.

All three of Liberty's qualifiers for the 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships were honored by the Big South Conference on Friday. Sam Chelanga was tabbed the Co-Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Elliot Galeone and Kolby Shepherd shared the Big South Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Chelanga, who shared his award with VMI's Felix Kitur, qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both the 5K and 10K events. The 11-time All-American posted the fastest time at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet in the 5K (14:06.16) and 10K (29:00.94).

A redshirt senior, Chelanga has won nine Big South weekly awards this year, including two in cross country, five in indoor track and a pair in outdoor track.

Galeone's third Big South Men's Field Athlete of the Week award this season came as a result of his 227-8 javelin throw at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. The redshirt senior from Maryland placed seventh in the event, qualifying for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the second year in a row.

Shepherd has now captured five Big South Men's Field Athlete of the Week awards this year, after pole vaulting 17-0.75 at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. That clearance made the redshirt junior Liberty's first men's pole vaulter ever to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11. Galeone and Shepherd will both compete on June 8, with the men's javelin beginning at 4:05 p.m. Eastern and the men's pole vault following at 6:35 p.m.

Chelanga will run the men's 10K final June 9 at 9:50 p.m. Eastern. He will then compete in the 5K June 11 at 2:21 p.m. Eastern, in a race which will be televised live nationally on CBS.
