NCAA East Preliminary Round Track Blog: Day 1
From the top row of the bleachers at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex, LibertyFlames.com will provide live blog coverage of all three days of the 2011 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet, weather permitting.
I write "weather permitting" because I'll be working outdoors. I will have cover over my head, but it may become unsafe to blog if heavy storms hit Bloomington. Last night, two rounds of storms hit town, downing many tree limbs and power lines throughout the city.
Seven of Liberty's 10 qualifiers for this meet will be in action today, starting with Elliot Galeone in the men's javelin at Noon. Twelve will be the magic number in every event, as the top 12 competitors this weekend will punch their tickets to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, slated for June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Here is the full schedule of today's events involving Liberty competitors. (Please note that the schedule could change due to the weather.)
Noon – Men's javelin (Elliot Galeone)
1 p.m. – Men's shot put (Ryan Smith)
4 p.m. – Men's 400 hurdles (Taylor Courtney)
4:30 p.m. – Women's 1,500 (Jennifer Klugh)
5 p.m. – Men's 1,500 (Isaac Wendland)
8:30 p.m. – Women's 10K (Dacia Bushman)
9:15 p.m. – Men's 10K (Sam Chelanga)
I will again be using the interactive CoveritLive blog interface. This format allows readers to submit comments and questions throughout the day, as you follow your favorite Flames and Lady Flames.
It will be easiest for me to provide detailed accounts of the running events, but I'll try to keep track of the field events as well as possible from this vantage point as well.
Without further ado, go Liberty!
