Workers begin moving dirt for a multi-sport complex on Campus East that will feature playing fields and an operations center for Liberty's women's lacrosse and field hockey teams.

This fall, two of Liberty's youngest athletics programs will have a new home. Construction is now underway for a three-field multi-sport complex that will house the athletics department's women's lacrosse and field hockey programs.

The future facility will be located on Campus East, below the university's residence halls. The complex will consist of three playing fields. The field hockey field will be comprised of the Shaw Sportexe® Woven Nylon HockeyElite™ turf system, while the women's lacrosse field will feature the Shaw Sportexe® PwerBlade™ HP+2.0 Monofilament Synthetic Turf System. The same turf system will also be installed for the third field, which will be used primarily for club sports.

The field hockey and women's lacrosse field will each have a seating capacity of 750. A double-sided press box will be positioned between the two fields.

Along with the trio of playing fields, crews will construct an operations center adjacent to the field hockey field. The 12,735 square-foot building will include team rooms, a training room, coaching offices and locker rooms for athletes, visiting teams and officials.

Liberty's women's lacrosse team recently completed its second collegiate season, with a 7-11 record, vastly improving from its 1-13 mark in 2010. Field hockey is slated to begin its inaugural season this fall.
