Isaac Wendland earned the Big South Men's Track Athlete of the Week award by clocking a career-best 1,500 time of 3:47.12 at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Three Liberty track & field athletes have earned Big South weekly honors, after sparkling performances at last Thursday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier. Isaac Wendland was named Big South Choice Hotels Men's Track Athlete of the Week, Kolby Shepherd was honored as Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Mia Aghaji was recognized as Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Wendland made the most of his final opportunity to qualify for the IC4A meet, finishing second in the men's 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time of 3:47.12. The fastest time by a Big South runner this season, the effort catapulted Wendland into consideration for the NCAA Preliminary Round meet. In addition, it moved the junior up to No. 3 in program history for the men's 1,500.

Shepherd, who cleared 17 feet in the pole vault for the fourth straight meet, collected his fourth Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor this season. He topped out at 17-1 for second place in the competition, suffering only his second pole vault setback all year.

Aghaji triple jumped 42-0.25 while winning the event and breaking both the Liberty and Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex records. The Big South indoor and outdoor triple jump champion is now tied for No. 31 on the national list.

Both Wendland and Shepherd will compete at the IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be contested Friday through Sunday in Princeton, N.J. Aghaji will miss the ECAC Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships due to graduation. However, she will return to action at the NCAA Division I Preliminary Round meet, May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind.
