LAX Squares off with Davidson in NLC Quarterfinals, Friday
The Liberty women's lacrosse team will take on tournament host Davidson (5-11, 4-3, NLC) in the first round of the 2011 National Lacrosse Conference Tournament, Friday. The opening draw between the Lady Flames and the No. 4 seed Wildcats at Davidson's Richardson Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. Liberty looks to advance to the semifinals over the hosting Wildcats after dropping its regular-season meeting to Davidson on April 10, 12-8.

Video packages can be purchased on a per game basis for $5.95 or fans may watch all nine tournament games for $19.95. A Look at the Lady Flames
Liberty concluded the 2011 season with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-5 posting in conference play. The Lady Flames earned the fifth seed after finishing in a three-way tie with Detroit (3-13, 2-5 NLC) and Presbyterian College (4-12, 2-5 NLC). Remaining even after looking at head-to-head matchups and records against common opponents, Liberty was awarded the spot based on its RPI.
The Lady Flames concluded regular-season play last Saturday with a win, defeating Lees-McRae, 22-6. Liberty's goal total surpassed the previous standard of 19, which occurred in the Lady Flames' 19-9 win over Howard on March 27.
Karis Walborn highlighted the Liberty offense with five goals and two assists. Five other Lady Flames finished with two goals apiece – Audra Menez, Emily Dinsmore, Jen Moyer, Kristin Crowley and Anna Starling.
Along with her two goals, Menez also made her way into the Liberty record books, chipping in six assists, setting a new single-game assist mark just two days after Moyer claimed the program record with four helpers against Longwood.
Kelsey Keimig led Liberty with five ground balls and seven draw controls. Annessa Jamison paced the Lady Flames' defense with four caused turnovers
Walborn leads the way in goals this season with 33, followed by junior captain Crowley who has 28. With her 33 markers, Walborn holds the program record for most goals in a single season.
The Lady Flames' defensive captain, Chloe McIntosh, leads the Lady Flames with 39 ground balls this season, followed by Freymond who has 35. Freymond is also pacing the Liberty defense in caused turnovers with 15.
Kristen Masullo has appeared in the net for the Lady Flames in all 16 contests, making 167 saves (.474 save percentage). According to the latest NCAA rankings summary, the Berkeley Heights, N.J., native is No. 6 in the country in saves, No. 7 in saves per game and No. 17 in save percentage.
Liberty is shooting .483 this season, finding the net on 168-of-348 shot attempts. In terms of team clears, the Lady Flames have a clear percentage of .688, successfully clearing the ball on 170-of-247 attempts.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson enters Sunday's contest with a 5-11 record overall and a 4-3 posting in conference play. The Wildcats are coming off a tough loss to American at home this past Saturday, falling to the Eagles, 23-5.
Ann Fucigna leads the Wildcats' offense with 44 goals this season, followed by Alanna Parker who has 36. Erin Doherty concluded the regular season as the team's assist leader with 13 helpers.
Defensively, Jessica Melby and Erin Mcguire are paving the way for Davidson with 25 groundballs, while Paige Logan and Lily Graham each have 15 caused turnovers. Melby has started all 16 contests in the net for the Wildcats, making 111 saves (.352 save percentage).
Davidson is shooting .491 this season, connecting on 168-of-342 shot attempts. The Wildcats also have a team clear percentage of .814, reaching the offensive zone on 171-of-210 occasions.
Liberty-Davidson Series Notes
Friday marks the third meeting all-time between the Lady Flames and the Wildcats with Davidson holding a 2-0 lead in the series. This season, Liberty hosted the Wildcats on April 10, dropping the contest, 12-8, at Osborne Stadium.
Attacker Kristin Crowley led the Lady Flames with four goals, while Davidson's Ann Fucigna finished with a quartet of tallies for the Wildcats.
Last season, the two squads capped off the regular season on April 24, 2010 in Davidson, N.C. Seeded No. 2 in the NLC standings, the hosting Wildcats defeated Liberty, 21-4.
Crowley and midfielder Sierra Clearwater accounted for Liberty's scoring effort, finishing with two goals apiece. Davidson's Haley Cook was the game's leading scorer with four goals, followed by four Wildcats who finished with a hat trick – Keena Classen, Alanna Parker, Jen Crawford and Alex Defrancesch.
Sneak Peek at the Semis
A win over the Wildcats will pit the Lady Flames against the winner of Game 1 (Jacksonville/Howard) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. However, a Lady Flames will drop them into the consolation bracket to face the loser of Game 1, Saturday morning, at 9 a.m.
