Lady Flames Earn No. 3 Seed for Big South Championships

The Lady Flames will be the No. 3 seed in the 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championship.

After being voted to finish in fourth place in the Big South's preseason poll, Liberty's women's tennis team posted a 6-1 conference mark to finish in a three-way tie for the regular-season title. The Lady Flames will be seeded third in the 2011 Big South Women's Tennis Championships, which get underway on Thursday, April 21 in Rock Hill, S.C.

The conference office announced the seeding for the tournament Friday evening, which was decided by tiebreakers after Liberty, Winthrop and Coastal Carolina each finished regular-season play with a 6-1 record. Tournament host Winthrop was awarded the No. 1 seed for the tournament while Coastal Carolina was awarded the No. 2 seed.

Rounding out the seeds are Charleston Southern at No. 4, Gardner-Webb at No. 5 and Radford and UNC Asheville as the No. 6 and 7 seeds, respectively. Winthrop is awarded a bye in the first round of tournament play, while the other six teams will begin competition on Thursday, April 21.

Liberty will match up with the No. 6 seed, Radford, in the first round of action Thursday at Noon. The Lady Flames are fresh off a defeat of the Highlanders on April 6, by way of a 7-0 sweep.

The tournament will culminate on Saturday, April 23 with the championship match to determine the 2011 Big South champions.

Match 1: No. 4 Charleston Southern vs. No. 5 Gardner-Webb, 9 a.m.
Match 2: No. 3 Liberty vs. No. 6 Radford, Noon
Match 3: No. 2 Coastal Carolina vs. No. 7 UNC Asheville, 3 p.m.

Friday, April 22 (semifinals) – Rock Hill, S.C.
Match 4: No. 1 Winthrop vs. Match 1 winner, 9 a.m.

Saturday, April 23 (Finals) – Rock Hill, S.C.
Match 6: Match 4 winner vs. Match 5 winner, 9 a.m.
