Carol Lobel won her team-leading 14th singles match of the season, helping the Lady Flames defeat UNC Asheville, 6-1 on Friday.

Liberty's women's tennis team defeated UNC Asheville, 6-1, Friday afternoon, to be named the Big South women's tennis regular-season co-champions along with Winthrop and Coastal Carolina. Each team finished the regular season with a 6-1 record in Big South play. The regular-season co-championship is the first in Liberty's history.

The Lady Flames wrap up the regular season with a 14-6 overall record and have won their last nine contests, giving them the second-best wins mark in program history. The 2009 squad posted 15 wins on the season. Meanwhile, the 6-1 record in Big South play ties the program's best conference record, which was also achieved in 2009, at 6-1. UNC Asheville ends the regular season with a 6-15 record, going 0-7 in conference play.

Liberty started strongly with its doubles play to earn the early 1-0 lead. Jordan Jenkins and Hannah Fick capped off a perfect regular season as the lead duo, as they took down Zoe Hamel and Stephanie Schon, 8-2. The senior pair went 8-0 this season, including a 6-0 mark in Big South contests. Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran scored an 8-5 win in the No. 2 match, defeating Devon Cavanaugh and Britney Cloer. Carol Lobel and Valeriya Klintsevich also wrapped up a perfect doubles mark in Big South play, as the pair defeated Nicole Schon and Jackie McGuirk, 8-0, in the No. 3 match. They finish the regular season with a 12-2 record together while being 5-0 in conference action.

In singles, Jenkins posted her fifth-straight singles win, defeating Cloer, 6-4, 6-2 in the lead singles match. Fick scored another win for the visitors in the No. 2 match, besting Stephanie Schon, 6-4, 6-1.

The homestanding Bulldogs posted a win in the No. 3 spot, but it wouldn't be enough as the final three Lady Flames scored wins. Sheeran posted her sixth-consecutive victory to finish the regular season with 13 wins, defeating Hamel in straight sets, 6-5, 6-3 in the No. 4 position in Liberty's lineup.

Lobel then defeated Nicole Schon after the UNC Asheville competitor retired in the second set. The Lady Flames' junior held a 6-0, 1-0 lead at the time of retirement in the No. 5 match. Annisha Domenech rounded off the ladies' victory in the No. 6 slot, beating out McGuirk, 7-5, 6-1 for her 11th win of the season.

The Lady Flames will next compete in the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, which begins Thursday, April 21 in Rock Hill, S.C. Three contests take place on Thursday, while the tournament will conclude Saturday with the championship match.
