Liberty senior Ashley Bensinger has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week for games played April 4-10, it was announced today by the league office.

The honor marks the first time Bensinger has received a Player of the Week honor during her career, and Liberty has now earned the award for three straight weeks (Keely McMillon was the Player of the Week on March 28 and April 4).

Bensinger helped the Lady Flames to two victories over Charleston Southern last week with a .500 batting average, seven RBIs, four hits, three runs, a .556 on base percentage and a 1.375 slugging percentage.

The third baseman hit her second career grand slam Friday, helping Liberty to a 9-1 league win. She followed the performance with two triples, batting in three of the four runs and scoring the fourth in a 4-1 win over the Lady Bucs on Saturday. Her two-triple performance tied a program-best, and the last Lady Flame to record two triples in a game was Stacy Radulovich in 1998.

Bensinger is now on a nine-game hitting streak and has raised her batting average by 90 points since March 24. She finished the week on the defensive side with nine assists, two putouts and no errors.

Bensinger and the Lady Flames are back in action Wednesday, taking on James Madison in a non-conference doubleheader in Harrisonburg, Va. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
