Happel and Haraf Lead Liberty at Hokie Invitational

Becca Haraf led Liberty with 32 digs on the day at the 2011 Hokie Spring Tournament.

Lillie Happel recorded 33 kills and Becca Haraf came up with 32 digs on the day, as the Liberty Lady Flames competed in the Hokie Spring Tournament on Saturday in Blacksburg, Va.

Liberty faced East Tennessee State, Charlotte, Wake Forest and Ohio in the day-long event. The Lady Flames won their first set of the day, 25-16, but dropped the next six before taking the final set from Ohio, 25-19. Each matchup was a two-set contest.

Happel led the team in kills in all matches, with her highest total of the day coming against Charlotte with 10. Haraf and Kelly Haseman tied for the most digs in three out of four contests.

Loren Thomas hit .571 against Charlotte, and notched 12 kills on the day, while Kaylee Groeneveld added 16 total kills and Kendle Rollins contributed 12.

Haseman, a 2010 Big South all-conference selection, finished the day with 28 digs.

The Lady Flames will conclude their spring slate next weekend, competing at Duke on Saturday. Liberty will face VCU, Virginia Tech, North Carolina Central and Duke during the event, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
