With the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships just two weeks away, Nick Pierce caught up with Liberty sophomore pole vaulter Shelley Parker and head coach Brant Tolsma.

Parker, the 2011 Big South indoor women's pole vault champion, achieved a milestone during Saturday's Liberty Collegiate Invitational. She cleared 12-1.5, becoming just the fourth Lady Flame ever to go over 12 feet in the event.

Meanwhile, Kolby Shepherd was successful at 17-0.75 in the men's pole vault, making the redshirt junior the fourth Liberty men's vaulter ever to reach 17 feet. Also providing a meet highlight was Elliot Galeone, whose 226-5 javelin throw broke the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex record.

This week will provide Liberty's final opportunity to tune up for the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Eleven Flames and Lady Flames are competing in the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Meanwhile, Liberty will also take part in the team-scored Carolina's Cup, Friday evening in Rock Hill, S.C.
