Liberty Set to Host Charleston Southern for Big South Series
The Liberty Lady Flames will step back into conference play this weekend, hosting the Lady Bucs of Charleston Southern in a three-game Big South series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Live stats for all three games will be available to view via GameTracker on LibertyFlames.com, and Friday's doubleheader will be broadcast via video stream on the Big South Network.
The Lady Flames (12-16, 3-2 Big South) are coming off two losses to non-conference opponent UNC Greensboro on Wednesday. Prior to that, Liberty took two out of three games from Big South foe Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., over the weekend.
Kelly Strickland is now on a 14-game hitting streak, the longest of her career, and the best streak since Beth Bennett's 17-game stretch in 2008. Strickland has homered in each of the last two games, and her eight home runs on the year ties her for first in the Big South.
Keely McMillon, the Big South Player of the Week for the last two weeks, leads the team with a .405 batting average.
As a team, the Lady Flames are leading the Big South with a .270 batting average. Charleston Southern ranks third (.261).
Pitcher Katrina Johnson is pacing the Liberty pitching staff with a 7-4 record and a 2.37 ERA, and one save. The sophomore right-hander has thrown 88.2 innings, striking out 48 batters and recording one shutout.
The Lady Bucs are 16-22 on the year and 3-2 in Big South play, after a 12-4 loss to ACC member South Carolina on Tuesday. Last weekend, Charleston Southern took two victories in three games from Coastal Carolina in conference action.
Junior shortstop Megan Lombard leads the team with a .310 batting average, while sophomore outfielder Jana Matthews has recorded 24 RBIs.
The Charleston Southern offense ranks first in the Big South in six different statistical categories: on-base percentage (.348), runs scored (159), hits (258), RBIs (153), doubles (49) and total bases (392).
Sophomore Morgan Dowdy is 6-13 in the circle for the Lady Bucs, with 139.0 innings pitched and a 3.02 ERA.
Liberty is 35-10 all-time against Charleston Southern, and won two out of three games played during last year's regular season in Charleston, S.C. The Lady Flames have won the last 10 straight contests against the Lady Bucs at Liberty Softball Field.
