Parker McKoy tied for a team low with a 76 on Saturday

Liberty men's golf finished the first day of play at Elon's Sea Trail Intercollegiate Invitational sitting in 19th place out of 20 teams and 21 strokes off the leader James Madison who posted a 284 for a two-stroke lead over Western Carolina.

Loyola and Guilford are tied for third place with matching 289 scores and Gardner-Webb rounds out the top five with a score of 291. James Madison saw four players finish in the top-20 to pace the team. Joe Scheffres and Scott Marino each recorded a two-under 70 to tie for fifth while Tim Driver and Fielding Brewbaker each posted an even 72 and sit in a tie for 18th.

Matt Cook of Western Carolina and Kris Shepherd of Kennesaw State each shot a five-under 67 to lead the tournament. Guilford's Colin Clark and Stetson's David McAndrew sit in a tie for third with a score of 69 while six players shot a 70 to tie for fifth.

Liberty had it's top three individuals all finish round one at four-over par as Jay Calvo, Parker McKoy and Michael Turner all shot a 76. Peter Horstman shot a five-over par, finishing at 77, while Stephen Hawk rounded out the Liberty squad with a 78 on the afternoon.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with 18 holes at the par 72, 6,761-yard course in Sunset Beach, N.C., beginning at 8 a.m.
