Junior Lara Bartolomeo

Each Wednesday throughout the volleyball season, fans will get the opportunity to know one of the Liberty volleyball players a bit better through a question-and-answer session.  Today, the series continues with junior libero Lara Bartolomeo, who has flourished in that role, recording 20 or more digs in three of the last four matches.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
I can't say that I have a favorite verse because there are many verses that speak to me at many points in my life and impact me in different ways.

What is your favorite movie?
I am not going to lie. I like scary movies. I have to be in a certain mood to watch funny movies. But all in all I don't really hate any movie. I could watch anything.

What is your favorite memory while competing in your sport?
My favorite memory in volleyball is playing my senior year of high school on my club team. We won the huge tournament at the end of the year. We came in seeded number one and left at the end of the week number one. Our coach always said that you have to fight the hardest when you are number one. It was an amazing year.

What is your most embarrassing memory while competing in your sport?
I don't really have an embarrassing moment while playing for the Lady Flames.

I came to Liberty because…
I knew this is where the Lord wanted me. I knew He had a plan for me even though I didn't think it was the best one at the time. It turns out this is an amazing place and the Lord has opened my eyes to things I have never seen before.

Share something that people don't know about you.
I like to sew, I have an ‘89 Toyota Land Cruiser that eats up gas like there is no tomorrow, I used to eat a box of Cheez-Its every day for a few months and the only kind of dog/dogs I would get are Siberian huskies. I tried to learn Japanese when I was younger. I really have no strong opinions about anything and I am terrible at debating and I have super stage fright.

What has been your defining moment as an athlete?
Same as my favorite memory.

What is one question you would ask Dr. Falwell?
The first thing I would ask him is if he could get me my own plane with unlimited gas. I would need a pilot too….

If you could be somebody else for a day, who would you be and why?
I would want to be Angelina Jolie because I would be good looking and could adopt any kid I want within days OR I would be the Olsen twins because I love the clothes they own.

Who is your favorite Liberty athlete?
My favorite athlete at Liberty is Daniel Matthew McGarry. I have no specific reason for choosing him except for the fact that I am friends with him. He is on the soccer team and is an amazing athlete.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
The best advice that has been given to me is the fact that I have a purpose.

If you could change one rule in your sport, what would it be and why?
I have no idea what rule I would change if it was possible.

After graduation I would like to …
Backpack around Europe for a while and then go from there. I want to work with kids somehow.

In my spare time, I like to …
Sleep a lot. One of my favorite things to do is to go jetskiing. It is a great pastime. I love to read books by Francine Rivers, she is a great author. I like to make things with popsicle sticks and cotton balls. I also really enjoy counting change.

Words that describe me on the athletic field (and why) are …
I am very competitive and I would have to say I get on people a lot because I know that our team can always get better. I enjoy playing volleyball so I also like to joke around when the time is right.

If you could compete in any sport against any athlete, who would it be and why?
I would like to play Kerri Walsh in checkers.

My craziest ambition in life is to …
This may not be my craziest one, but I would like to walk on the Great Wall of China.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Before playing volleyball, I like to chew a lot of ice.

Who is one person in history that you would like to meet and why?
History is probably my worst subject, so I don't really know too many people in history that I think I would want to meet, but if I had to choose someone I would pick Harriet Tubman. I would love to meet her because she touched many people's lives and I think I would learn a lot from her.

A place I've always wanted to visit, but never had the chance is (and why)?
A place I would love to visit is New Zealand because it is a beautiful place. It has picturesque villages and rolling hills and fabulous mountainsides. If Jerry would give that plane, I could go to New Zealand anytime I want.
