Cameron Richard is the third Lady Flame to be named as the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week this season.

Cameron Richard became the first freshman to be named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week this season, as the Birmingham, Ala., native earned the honor for her 3-1 combined record in last week's matches for the Lady Flames. The conference office announced the award earlier today, which includes matches played from March 7-13.

Richard's effort came at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions and the No. 2 doubles slot, helping the Lady Flames go 1-1 in last week's contests. The Liberty women picked up their first Big South win of the season, defeating Presbyterian College, 6-1, while also giving No. 34 Marshall a tough contest, falling 4-3 in their second match this year versus a ranked opponent.

Against Presbyterian College, Richard began the day by pairing with fellow freshman Alexandra Sheeran in the No. 2 doubles contest, defeating Courtney Gardiner and Lindsay Krause, 8-5. In singles action, Richard posted a 6-3, 6-0 effort at No. 2 to overpower Christina Limantoro, helping the Lady Flames secure their first home win of the season.

Against No. 34 Marshall, Richard notched another singles victory, defeating Kristina Koprcina in a lengthy contest at No. 3 singles. After Richard picked up the first set, 7-6 (4), Koprcina answered back with a 6-4 win to level the match. Richard then owned the deciding rally-scored set, winning 10-2 to clinch the match.

Richard has now been recognized with both Big South women's tennis weekly honors, after being named Freshman of the Week for contests during Jan. 24-30.

Richard is the third different Lady Flame to be named as the Player of the Week this spring. Jordan Jenkins held the honor for the Jan. 24-30 week, while Hannah Fick was honored the following week, Jan. 31-Feb. 6.

The Lady Flames are 6-6 this season and are on their spring break trip. They currently are playing NJIT in Orlando, Fla., in a match which was slated to begin at 8 a.m.
