Men's and Women's Tennis Competing at Home
The Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts will be busy at the end of this week, with the Liberty men's tennis team making its home debut on Friday and the women's tennis team competing on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, both the men and women's programs welcome Presbyterian College to the tennis courts on Campus North for their second Big South contest on the year. Matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
In the women's weekend cap, No. 34 Marshall comes to town for the Lady Flames second match of the year against a top-100 team. Liberty and Marshall square off at 11 a.m., Saturday.
Liberty's men's squad is looking forward to a home contest after starting the season with nine-consecutive road matches. The Flames hold a 3-6 record, but have won two of their last three matches. The wins came over Atlantic 10 members Richmond (4-3) and Charlotte (6-1).
After being voted to finish seventh in the Big South, Presbyterian College's men have a 9-6 record and are 0-1 in Big South action. They fell to Gardner-Webb, 5-2, early in the year. The Blue Hose have been streaky this season, having a stretch of four-straight losses while they are currently on a five-match win streak.
The Lady Flames are returning to action for their second contest in a three-match home stretch. Liberty lost a tight match with East Carolina, 4-3, last week and holds a 4-5 record this season.
The Presbyterian College women's team is off to an 8-7 start this season and is also 0-1 in the Big South, having lost to Gardner-Webb, 6-1. Presbyterian College has also dropped matches to Appalachian State (5-2), a team the Lady Flames were edged by during their season opener, and the aforementioned East Carolina (7-0).
On Saturday, No. 34 Marshall comes to Liberty Mountain sporting an 11-3 record. The Thundering Herd are lead by No. 37 Michaela Kissell, while the pairing of Kissell and Dominica Zaprazna is currently ranked No. 32 in the latest Campbell's ITA women's rankings.
LibertyFlames.com's coverage of the tennis matches this weekend will include live stats for the first time for all three matches. After the individual matchups are posted at the beginning of the contests, look for scores to be updated periodically through the match.
