A come-from-behind singles victory by Ekaterina Kuznetzova highlighted the opening weekend of fall competition for the Liberty women's tennis team at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Virginia Beach.

Kuznetzova, who returns for her second season of competition with the Lady Flames, overcame a thigh injury to rally from behind in her quarterfinal match with Sharanya Pattabi of Temple for victory in women's B singles. After dropping the first set 4-6, Kuznetzova came back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, she prevailed for the win.

Earlier in the day, Kuznetsova had defeated Washburn's Jennifer Keiner in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the match against Pattabi. Later in the weekend, she dropped 6-4, 6-4 decision in the semifinals to Longwood's Laura Simon for her only singles setback on the weekend.

Jonita Randolph also recorded a victory in women's A singles.
