Tiffani Smith struck out nine batters as the Lady Flames defeated the Red Foxes of Marist.

The Lady Flames held the Red Foxes of Marist to just two hits en route to a 4-0 win, Saturday afternoon, at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic.

The win marks Liberty's second victory of the day, as the Lady Flames defeated the Dragons of Drexel, 9-2, earlier.

Liberty is now 2-1 on the year, while Marist remains winless at 0-3.

The Lady Flames' bats sparked in the top of the second, enjoying three extra-base hits that led to a 2-0 lead. With one out, freshman Sammi Shivock busted a triple to right, and Kaylee West followed up with an RBI double to right center. One out later, Bridgett Woods doubled down the left field line to bring in the second run.

The Red Foxes put their first runner on in the bottom of the second, when designated player Haley Birnbaum reached on a long two-out single to left center. But Nicole Van Loan struck out swinging and Marist stayed scoreless.

The Lady Flames added two runs to their total in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter Jill Stephens drew a walk, and Keely McMillon pinch hit to reach on a fielding error by Marist pitcher Paige Lewis. Two outs later, Jenny Law doubled through the left side to put Liberty ahead, 4-0, and the Lady Flames never looked back.

Tiffani Smith (1-1) fanned nine batters in the contest and only gave up two walks, while Lewis (0-1) gave up five hits and three earned runs.

Offensively, Law led the Lady Flames, batting 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Kaylee West and Bridgett Woods drove in one run apiece.

Ashley Corriss and Birnbaum recorded the two Marist hits of the game.

The Lady Flames will conclude their appearance in the Cougar Classic tomorrow, facing off against Notre Dame at noon.
