Lady Flames, Lady Monarchs Meet Friday
The Liberty women's tennis team travels to Norfolk, Va., Friday to compete in a dual match with Old Dominion. The match is the team's sixth-straight road contest in what will be an eight-match stretch away from Liberty Mountain to open the spring 2011 season.
The Lady Flames are coming off an exciting come-from-behind victory over Campbell on Sunday. Freshman Rebekah Jenkins provided the clinching match of the contest at No. 5 singles, rallying to win in three sets. The Lady Flames faced a 3-1 deficit late in the match before scoring singles victories from Jordan Jenkins, Annisha Domenech and Rebekah Jenkins to close out the contest. The women's team sports a 3-2 record on the season.
Liberty is looking for its first win against the Lady Monarchs, who hold the 2-0 series edge. Each meeting has come in the past two seasons, with Old Dominion earning 7-0 victories on both occasions.
Old Dominion is 4-4 this season, after falling to Richmond in a tight 4-3 match on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs' record also includes a 5-2 loss to Big South member, Winthrop, on Feb. 5.
The match with Old Dominion is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
