Klugh Included on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
Liberty redshirt sophomore Jennifer Klugh has been named to the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010.
Klugh, a mathematics major with a 3.39 GPA, came in 15th at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships, successfully meeting both criteria.
Klugh was previously voted Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's cross country, becoming the first sophomore to win the award since 1995. She was the first Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year since 1999 to also win the conference women's cross country individual title.
Liberty's first Big South women's cross country individual champion since Heather Sagan in 2001, Klugh enjoyed a breakthrough season. She was a two-time Big South Runner of the Week and set the Liberty women's cross country 6K record with her 20:58 clocking at the Brooks Paul Short run on Oct. 1.
Klugh has carried her cross country success over into the indoor track & field season, qualifying for the ECAC meet in the mile, 3K and 5K. Most recently, she broke the Liberty and Big South Conference 5K records, running a 16:56.14 at the Flotrack Husky Classic on Friday.
Entering the Big South meet, Klugh ranks No. 1 in the conference in both the 3K and 5K and No. 2 in the mile. The 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships will be contested Feb. 24-25 in Clemson, S.C.
