Three Flames Named to All-State Team
The Liberty Flames men's soccer team have placed three players on the VaSID All-State first team. Liberty forward Darren Amoo, midfielder Phillip Aseweh and defender Uriah Bentick were selected to the VaSID All-State first team in voting conducted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The all-state team honors the best Division I men's soccer players in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Amoo, a redshirt sophomore, was named first team All-Big South for the second year in a row, after leading the Big South Conference in goals for the second-straight year with 12. The forward also tied for the conference lead with 27 points (12 goals and three assists). The Accra, Ghana native finished the year ranked sixth in the nation by averaging 0.75 points per game and 11th in the country by averaging 1.69 points per game.
Aseweh finished second on the Flames in scoring with 15 points and was also selected to the All-Big South first team. The junior has scored four goals, while recording seven assists on the year. The midfielder tied for second in the Big South with his career high assists total. He is one of five Liberty players to start every game this year.
In addition, Aseweh was selected to the 2010 Big South men's soccer all-academic team. The Navrongo, Ghana native was named this season to the CoSIDA District III all-academic team for his work in the classroom as well as on the field.
Bentick, a sophomore, earned All-Big South first team selection in his first season as a full-time starter at defender for the Flames. The Port of Spain, Trinidad native recorded seven points during the year, scoring three goals and assisting on another.
The trio was instrumental to the Flames posting their fourth consecutive season with 10 or more victories. Liberty posted a 10-7-1 record in 2010.
