Warley Tabbed Big South Player of the Week
For the second time this season and the fourth time in her career, Liberty redshirt junior center Avery Warley has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Warley joins Da'Naria Erwin Spencer of Radford and Katie Tull of Charleston Southern as the only two-time Big South Player of the Week honorees so far this season.
Warley helped the Lady Flames defeat conference rivals Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina, pacing the team in both points (14.5) and rebounds (14.5), while shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 90 percent from the foul line.
The Washington, D.C. native scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds Saturday against Charleston Southern. She tallied 13 points and nine rebounds after halftime, helping Liberty repel the Lady Buccaneers' attempts at a comeback.
Warley then led all players in both points (14) and rebounds (13) Monday evening against Coastal Carolina. During the final 85 seconds alone, Warley blocked a shot, grabbed two rebounds and made all four of her free throws, sealing Liberty's four-point victory.
The two performances ran Warley's streak to five consecutive double-doubles. She has notched a Big South-leading 10 double-doubles this season and is tied with Liberty Athletics Hall of Famer Theresa Bream for fourth place in program history with 23 career double-doubles.
Warley also accomplished a pair of career milestones during the Charleston Southern victory, scoring her 800th career point and pulling down her 700th career rebound. She is one of only five players in program history to reach both plateaus.
For the season, Warley leads the Big South in field goal percentage (.592) and ranks No. 2 in rebounds (9.5 rpg). In conference games, Warley tops the conference leaderboard in both rebounds (12.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.633), while ranking No. 5 in scoring (13.0 ppg).
Warley and the Lady Flames will return to action Saturday at 7 p.m., when they travel to Winthrop.
