Lady Flames Sweep Tri-Meet

Bethany Wakeley won the 1000 and 500 freestyle events as Liberty defeated VMI and Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.

The Liberty Lady Flames dominated a tri-meet Saturday, defeating Mount St. Mary's and host VMI in Lexington, Va.

With the victories, Liberty improves to 5-5 on the season, with only one meet remaining on the schedule before the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Conference Championships.

The Lady Flames were victorious in every event they entered Saturday, with the exception of the 100 backstroke. The team performance resulted in a 87-20 win over VMI and a 71-26 victory over Mount St. Mary's. The host Keydets also dropped a 72-32 decision to Mount St. Mary's.

The quartet of Dani Fletcher, Amber Kerico, Bethany Wakeley and Lindsey Romkes set the tone for the afternoon, winning the first event of the day, the 200 medley relay (1:55.31). Next came individual victories from Wakeley in the 1000 free (10:57.38) and Romkes in the 200 free (2:00.36).

Brye Ravettine followed up last weekend's season-best performance in the 50 free, finishing first with a time of 24.17 (her season-best is 24.13). Two events later, Ravettine finished first in the 100 fly (58.86).

Kerico also picked up two individual wins, swimming fastest in the 200 IM (2:18.16) and the 100 breast (1:11.06). Wakeley and Romkes joined the group of Lady Flames with multiple wins, winning the 500 free and 100 free, respectively.

In the closest event of the day, the Lady Flames concluded the afternoon when the foursome of Emily Mudd, Lauren Garside, Fletcher and Ravettine came from behind to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.20.

Liberty is back in action next weekend in Davidson, N.C., competing in the Davidson Duals. The meet is scheduled to begin Saturday at 2 p.m.
