Game Day Central

Two of the Big South Conference's four 1-0 women's basketball teams will meet Saturday in Clinton, S.C., as Liberty (6-7, 1-0 Big South) travels to Presbyterian College (4-8, 1-0 Big South). Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. at the Templeton Center.

Both the Lady Flames and Blue Hose opened conference play with impressive victories on Monday. Liberty posted a 68-60 decision at High Point, while PC outscored Coastal Carolina by a 32-12 count during the second half of its 52-36 home win.

Liberty is 5-0 all-time versus Presbyterian College, including a pair of victories last season. The Lady Flames are also 39-2 in Big South Conference games played in South Carolina since the start of the 1997-98 season.

The Lady Flames have won three of their last four games, improving to 3-3 on their current nine-game road swing. Meanwhile, the Templeton Center has been a difficult place for opponents to win this season. Presbyterian College is 3-1 at home so far in 2010-11.

Liberty's starting five fared well at High Point, accounting for 57 points and 40 rebounds. Devon Brown scored a game-high 17 points, while Avery Warley notched her second consecutive double-double, with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Frazier distributed a career-high eight assists against the Panthers, helping her earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this year.

Defense has been the key for the Blue Hose this season. Most recently, they limited Coastal Carolina to 27.8 percent field goal shooting on Monday. For the year, PC ranks No. 2 in the Big South for scoring defense, allowing only 57.2 ppg.

Individually, reigning Big South Freshman of the Year Mariah Pietrowski paces the Blue Hose in both scoring (10.0 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg). Fellow 2009-10 Big South All-Freshman team member Dria David chips in 6.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.6 apg and 2.1 apg. Including the Lady Flames' Jelena Antic, 60 percent of the 2009-10 Big South All-Freshman squad will be on the court during Saturday's contest.
