Home Meeting with Hokies Highlights 2011 LAX Schedule
Complete 2011 Lacrosse Schedule
After playing 12 regular-season games in its inaugural year, the Liberty women's lacrosse team returns to the field this spring with 16 regular-season matchups scheduled. The 2011 docket also features a greater helping of home cooking, with nine matchups at Osborne Stadium, compared to just two this past season.
"After having only two home games last season we are thrilled to have nine home games for our 2011 season," second-year Liberty head coach Regan Denham said. "Our schedule this year definitely raises the level of competition and creates opportunities for our team to grow."
Liberty's home slate is highlighted by a visit from ACC member Virginia Tech. The Hokies will make a stop in the Hill City on March 29 for a 7 p.m. scuffle with the Lady Flames under the Osborne Stadium lights.
Denham and her squad open the season on March 1 against St. Francis (Pa.). After falling to the Red Flash last season in Loretto, Pa., the Lady Flames look to defend their home field in their second meeting with the Northeast Conference (NEC) member.
Following its clash with the Red Flash, Liberty remains at home to host Monmouth on March 6 at 1 p.m. The Lady Flames then hit the road during the week of spring break, taking on Siena (March 12) and Central Connecticut State. (March 15).
On March 22, Liberty returns to Osborne Stadium for the start of a four-game homestand. The Lady Flames begin the stretch with an afternoon tilt versus Fresno State. National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) play commences on March 25 with Detroit Mercy, followed by Howard on March 27. Last season, Liberty earned the program's first win against the Bison on March 6, defeating the conference opponent in Washington, D.C., 17-16, in overtime. Liberty's date with the Hokies on March 29 wraps up the quartet of home contests.
"We are excited to be able to host Virginia Tech this spring," Denham stated. "Virginia Tech is a great regional opponent and should provide a good night of lacrosse. The atmosphere created by a game under the lights will hopefully encourage members of the community to become supporters of Liberty women's lacrosse."
The Lady Flames then return to the road to begin the month of April, playing three straight games away from Lynchburg. Liberty meets two conference competitors during the stretch, Jacksonville (April 1) and Presbyterian College (April 3), before concluding the road trip at Erskine on April 5.
The Lady Flames continue conference play at Osborne Stadium on April 10 against Davidson, before playing host to the NLC's newest addition, High Point, on April 13. Following a non-conference road game against American (April 19), Liberty wraps up its 2011 home slate against defending NLC champion Longwood on April 21. Prior to tournament play, the Lady Flames will travel to Lees-McRae on April 23.
The NLC Tournament begins on April 29 in Davidson, N.C. The three-day tournament concludes with the finals on May 1 and the crowning of the 2011 NLC champion.
