Head Coach Paul Wetmore announced the addition of five athletes to the softball squad for the 2011-12 academic year.

Liberty Head Softball Coach Paul Wetmore has announced the signing of five athletes to the program for the 2011-12 school year. Kelby Allen, Chandler Ball, Amber Donovan, Hanna Nickols and Megan Robinson have all signed national letters of intent to attend Liberty University.

Kelby Allen (5-5, C/OF, Amarillo, Texas)
"Kelby brings a great work ethic to our team," commented Wetmore. "That hard work has paid off with outstanding catching skills and outfield ability. Her strong bat will also provide power to our lineup, and we are thrilled to have her as a Lady Flame."

Chandler Ball (5-6, RHP, Warner Robins, Ga.)
Chandler Ball comes to Liberty from Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, Ga., where she was a four-year varsity letterwinner in softball. The 2010 MVP helped lead her team to a regional championship and a state runner-up finish in 2008, and was an all-county honorable mention performer at third base during the same season.

As a club team player, Ball was part of two 16U national-qualifying teams: Team Georgia in 2009 and Georgia Elite in 2010.

"We are very excited to add Chandler to our pitching staff," Wetmore said. "She has been well-coached and prepared for Division I competition by playing with a great GA Elite Gold program. We are looking for big things from her."

Amber Donovan (5-8, C/OF, Guilford, Conn.)
Amber Donovan will join the Liberty family after a successful prep career at Mercy High School in Guilford, Conn., where she was named to the Middletown Press All-Area first team as a catcher, and also received all-conference honors in the All-Southern Connecticut Conference.

Donovan also competed for the CT Eliminators in travel ball, hitting .430 over the past five seasons.

"Amber is an outstanding utility player who is ready to catch or play outfield or infield," stated Wetmore. "She has developed into a very good hitter, and that, combined with her hard-nosed play, will make her an impact player for us."

Hanna Nichols (5-9, INF, Richmond, Va.)
Hanna Nichols will come to Liberty from Richmond, Va., where she was a four-year starter at Mills Godwin High School. She tallied a .411 batting average for her career, earning first team all-district, second team all-region and second team All-Metro awards during her prep career.

Nichols also competed for the West End Waves travel team, and boasted a .486 batting average and a .757 slugging percentage during the summer season.

"We are pleased to have Hanna join our team," Wetmore said. "She plays first base, third base and the outfield equally well. She brings another powerful bat to our lineup and has a solid knowledge of the game."

Megan Robinson (5-7, INF, Richlands, Va.)
Megan Robinson will join the Lady Flames after an award-winning career at Richlands High School, where she most recently won all-district, all-region and all-state honors in 2010. The infielder also competes for the Virginia Storm travel team, and helped the squad to a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in 2009.

At Richlands, Robinson posted a .507 batting average last season with 38 hits and a .993 slugging percentage.

"Megan is the whole package," commented Wetmore. "She can play anywhere on the field, hit for power and run hard. We are expecting a big future for her at Liberty."
