Autum Black

Autum Black

Each Wednesday throughout the volleyball season, fans will get the opportunity to know one of the Liberty volleyball players a bit better through a question-and-answer session.  Today, the series begins with senior middle blocker Autum Black.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
My favorite bible verse is Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." This is my favorite verse because I would rather people know me for who I am and respect me for how I carry myself than for what I have.

What is your favorite movie?
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

What is your favorite memory while competing in your sport?
My favorite memory from volleyball was earning a scholarship my junior year after walking on as a freshman.

What is your most embarrassing memory while competing in your sport?
My most embarrassing memories of volleyball have been tripping myself and falling down in the middle of a couple games.

I came to Liberty because …
I was captured by the atmosphere that I experienced the first time I visited the campus. It is an amazing experience to be able to play Division I volleyball and be in a Christian environment at the same time.

Share something that people don't know about you.
I don't think most people know that I am a neat freak.

What has been your defining moment as an athlete?
I believe my defining moment was being a sophomore starter and leading the team in attack percentage and blocks.

What is one question you would ask Dr. Falwell?
I would like to ask Dr. Falwell how he manages his busy schedule. Sometimes I feel like I have no time, but it seems like he is always expected to be in two places at the same time and somehow he manages it. It is so impressive that he takes the time to come to games and support his students with his busy schedule.

If you could be somebody else for a day, who would you be and why?
If I could be somebody else for a day I would like to be my best friend's chocolate lab, Buck. It would be the perfect day to be able to go swimming, stick my head out of a car window and just wait to be loved on. And at the end of the day when all I had to do was sleep, I could look forward to a nice long walk and a good back rub!

Who is your favorite Liberty athlete?
Former volleyball player Erin McKeown is my favorite Liberty athlete. She has been a great role model for me and I have become a better player with her help and guidance.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
My parents have always told me to work hard and give my all in whatever I decide to do … and with their advice I have made it to where I am today.

If you could change one rule in your sport, what would it be and why?
I would not allow the ball to hit the net on the serve because to me it seems like an accidental point. If the ball hits the net and barely makes it over it, is not skill; it is just luck.

After graduation I would like to …
Go to work for an interior design company and become a residential interior designer. Also, I would like to start a family with my husband, Ben, and eventually work out of our home.

In my spare time, I like to …
Work on arts and craft projects as I enjoy sewing, painting and making jewelry.

Words that describe me on the athletic field (and why) are …
Hard worker because I try every day to work harder than anyone else on the court and even if I'm having a bad day I will still be giving it my all for my team.

My craziest ambition in life is to …
To have twins - I know I don't have much say in the matter, but I would love the experience of raising twins.

Who is one person in history that you would like to meet and why?
I would like to meet Christopher Black, my husband's late twin brother. Everyone that knew him agrees he had passion for life that was incomparable to most people. Since he was so much a part of my husband's life, I feel like I am missing out on one of the best things he ever knew.

A place I've always wanted to visit, but never had the chance is (and why)?
I would love to visit Greece because it looks like one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
