Bacon and Haseman Pick Up Big South honors

Karyl Bacon and Kelly Haseman picked up weekly Big South Conference honors today, as Bacon was named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week, while Haseman picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 27 – Oct. 3.

Today's awards mark the third weekly honors for both Bacon and Haseman this season. Additionally, Haseman becomes the first player in Liberty history to win three Defensive Player of the Week honors in one season.

Bacon, a senior from Temecula, Calif., put away 50 kills, hit .281 and averaged 5.0 kills per set to lead her Lady Flames to a 2-1 league record last week. Bacon got her week started with 19 kills on .366 hitting and 11 digs as Liberty knocked off High Point on the road on Sept. 28. Three days later against Winthrop, Bacon found the floor for 20 kills and came up with 15 digs. She closed her week out with 11 kills, a .400 average at the net and seven digs in Liberty's 3-0 win over Charleston Southern on Oct. 2. The wins pushed the Lady Flames into the top spot in the Big South at 4-1.

Haseman, a junior libero from Three Rivers, Mich., came up with 57 digs to average 5.70 digs per set for the Lady Flames last week. She highlighted her week with 22 digs against High Point on Sept. 28 and followed with 17 digs against Winthrop on Oct. 1. The next day against Charleston Southern, Haseman finished her week with 18 digs. In the three-match span, she also chipped in three aces.

The Lady Flames are back in action at home tomorrow night, hosting the Radford Highlanders at the Vines Center at 7 p.m.
