Lady Flames Post Sweep over CSU, 3-0
The Liberty Lady Flames posted a season-high .406 attack percentage, leading the squad to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-13) sweep over Charleston Southern, Saturday afternoon, in the Vines Center.
Liberty bounced back from a 3-1 loss to conference opponent Winthrop last night, and now sits at 13-7 overall and 4-1 in Big South play.
The Lady Bucs drop to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in the Big South.
A highlight of the win was redshirt freshman setter Lauren Bosche's performance. Bosche recorded her first career ace and posted a career high 10 assists and two kills.
The Lady Flames never trailed in the opening set, and the score was only tied once, at 1-all. It didn't take long for Liberty to break away on a 4-0 run to take a 16-9 advantage. The Bucs made a run of their own to stay in the set, posting six straight points to bring the score to 21-18, but the Lady Flames closed it out on a Kendle Rollins kill, sealing the 25-20 win.
Loren Thomas led all players with five kills in the first set, while Rollins was 4-for-6 in attacks. Charleston Southern was paced by Amanda Hill with three kills.
The second set saw similar results, as Liberty never trailed and the score was only tied once, at 1-1. The Lady Flames quickly jumped out to a 10-point lead at 18-8, behind key attacks by Karyl Bacon, Lillie Happel and Thomas.
Then, at 24-14, Hannah Anderson recorded the set-winning kill for the 25-14 victory.
Bacon posted six kills to lead the Lady Flames, while Hill added six for the Bucs. Thomas hit .571 during the frame with five kills, while Jade Craycraft was the only player to reach double digits in assists (12).
Liberty didn't let up in the third set, although Charleston Southern was able to take its first lead of the contest at 7-3. But the Lady Flames chipped away at that lead, tying it up, 9-all, on kills by Rollins and Anderson plus a few Charleston Southern attack errors.
Liberty pulled away for a 20-10 lead, and Bacon recorded two kills in the final three points to cement the 25-13 set win, and the sweep.
Rollins sparkled in the final set, leading all players with four kills and a .800 hitting percentage. Kayla Klinger led Charleston Southern with three kills in the third set.
Overall, Bacon contributed 11 kills, followed by Thomas with 10. Rollins and Happel each added eight kills, while Craycraft led all players with 23 assists and libero Kelly Haseman crouched for a match-high 18 digs.
The Lady Bucs were led by Hill, who recorded 10 kills, and Amy Nokes, who put up 11 assists.
As a team, the Lady Flames held Charleston Southern to just a .109 attack percentage for the match.
Liberty continues conference play on Tuesday night, hosting the Highlanders of Radford at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center.
Charleston Southern returns home to host UNC Asheville, Friday at 7 p.m.
