Two meets into the 2010 cross country season, head coach Brant Tolsma chatted with Nick Pierce about a variety of topics.

The conversation included a recap of last Friday's Coastal Carolina Invitational, which saw the Liberty men claim the team title and the women's team finish third. Evans Kigen won the men's 6K race in course-record fashion, while Hailey Neal was second on the women's side. Both runners were named Big South Cross Country Runners of the Week for their efforts.

Tolsma then looked ahead to this Saturday's Big South Preview and the Brooks Paul Short Run, scheduled for Oct. 1 in Bethlehem, Pa. The Paul Short meet will be the first time Liberty's full men's and women's teams compete together this season and will pit the Flames and Lady Flames against some stiff competition.

Tolsma will not accompany the team to Saturday's Big South Preview meet in Blacksburg, Va., as he will remain on campus for the 2010 World Championships for Ultra Multi Events. Tolsma will compete in the double decathlon, with 10 events scheduled for Friday and 10 more on Saturday. Action will get underway Friday at 9 a.m. at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.
