Women's Soccer Alumni Weekend Experiences Great Turnout
The Liberty women's soccer team hosted its annual alumni event this past weekend. Thirteen alumni from around the country returned back to campus for the event.
The festivities began with the alumni watching the Lady Flames gain a solid 5-0 victory over Howard on Friday night. The pre-game chapel service was led by 2009 team captains Rachel Wisehart and Heather Bowling, and the Lady Flames welcomed their former players back with a special halftime ceremony where they were recognized for their contributions to the program.
On Saturday, all attending alumni were given a tour of the new Luurtsema Center that was constructed this summer, including the new team locker room. After the tour, the current Lady Flames gathered around to cheer on the alumni as they played a match in Osborne Stadium. The weekend was a great opportunity for former Liberty players to connect with current players, as well as for former teammates to reconnect.
"We were honored to have so many alumni return to Liberty and to participate in this event," said Assistant Coach Ethan Allen. "These ladies, along with many other former players, have all made this program what it is today. We want our current players to recognize the hard work, and the dedication that others have put in over the years to build this program that they are currently a part of.
"We are all blessed to be able to be a part of the women's soccer program here at Liberty, and we as a program never want to take that for granted. Our thanks and gratitude go out to all of the alumni who have invested so much into this program over the years. We would also like to express our appreciation to the alumni that came to be a part of the Alumni Weekend, and we look forward to seeing many more alumni next season."
