Bacon, Haseman Earn Big South Weekly Honors

Karyl Bacon and Kelly Haseman earned Big South Player of the Week honors for matches played last week, as Bacon was named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Volleyball Player of the Week while Haseman picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The awards mark the second time each player has received their respective conference honor this season.

Bacon, a senior from Temecula, Calif., had a stellar performance in her home state over the weekend. She put away a total of 95 kills, averaged .212 at the net and posted 4.32 kills per set to lead her team to a 3-3 record on the week.

She posted four double-doubles and highlighted her week with 22 kills and 20 digs against UC Irvine on Sept. 16, marking the first 20-20 performance of her career. Against West Virginia on Sept. 17, Bacon recorded a career-high 23 kills, and followed with a season-high .455 attack percentage in the 3-0 win over Penn, on Sept. 18.

Defensively, the outside hitter also notched 73 digs and eight blocks in the six-match span.
For her efforts, Bacon was selected to the Fullerton Classic All-Tournament team.

Haseman, a junior from Three Rivers, Mich., came up with 141 digs and averaged 6.41 digs per set for the Lady Flames last week. She posted three matches with at least 30 digs, including a season-high 31 digs against UC Irvine and West Virginia. Haseman also chipped in five aces in the six-match span, with three of them coming in the win over James Madison on Sept. 14.

The Lady Flames will begin 2010 conference play this weekend, traveling to Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. matchup, Friday night, in Boiling Springs, N.C.
