Tristan Stayt went 3-0 in singles to claim the Flight B Singles title, and also produced a 3-0 doubles record with Mandeep Yadav.

The Liberty men's tennis team successfully opened its 2010 fall season over the weekend by winning two flights at the Mary Washington Kickoff Tournament, while also going undefeated in doubles play in Fredericksburg, Va.

The seven competitors for the Flames combined for a 21-8 record, including an impressive 9-0 record in doubles competition. Tristan Stayt claimed the title in the B singles flight, while Giancarlo Lemmi won his bracket, the Flight C singles.

Stayt opened the weekend on Saturday by defeating Will Apperson of Mary Washington and Ethan Dunbar of Richmond in straight sets. Despite dropping the first set to Longwood's Crescente Lesser, 3-6, on Sunday in the finals, Stayt rallied to claim the final two sets and the match with scores of 6-3, 4-2.

Lemmi was able sweep each of his singles opponents on the weekend to earn the C singles title. On Saturday, he picked up straight set wins over Patrick Mulquin of George Mason and Riley Baver of Mary Washington. On Sunday, he would win in the same fashion over Longwood's Jimmy Davis, with scores of 6-2, 6-3 on his way to the C singles title.

Siim Tuus was also able to pick up multiple victories for the Flames, defeating Richmond's Jesse Feder in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 4-0) and Longwood's Nobu Tanaka in straight sets.

On the doubles side, each pair of Flames was able to stay unbeaten on the weekend, all posting 3-0 records. Stayt and Mandeep Yadev paired up together, while Lemmi and Shea Thomas, and Benjamin Wirth and Tuus were the other formidable duos.

The Flames will return to the courts this Friday when they travel to Athens, Ga., to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament.
