Karyl Bacon led all players with 15 kills while helping the Blue team win all four sets.

While many players switched teams several times over four sets, the Blue team came out on top, 4-0, in Tuesday night's Blue-White volleyball scrimmage at the Vines Center.

After the first two sets were close, 25-21 and 25-20, the Blue team gained momentum in the final two sets, taking 25-17 and 25-14 victories.

Senior outside hitter Karyl Bacon, who was one of the few who stayed in a blue jersey all evening, led all players with 15 kills, while junior libero Kelly Haseman came up with 14 digs to pace the group. In addition to her team-high kill total, Bacon hit .500 and completed a double-double with 12 digs.

Aside from Bacon, other returning Lady Flames who performed well were Loren Thomas and Erica Manor, who each recorded 11 kills. Both players hit over .400, while Thomas posted a match-high four blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Anderson also contributed 10 kills, while redshirt freshman Lauren Bosché totaled 38 assists, while setting for both teams at different times during the scrimmage.

The newcomers also created a buzz in the Vines Center, especially from the service line, as the freshmen accounted for nine of the match's 14 total aces. Leading the way with three aces was outside hitter Lillie Happel, who also hit .414 with 13 kills. Setter Jade Craycraft led all players with 39 assists, and also had two aces and nine digs.

The White team was joined by a familiar face, as 2010 Liberty graduate and honorable mention AVCA All-American Chelaine McCarty played her customary middle blocker role. Assistant coaches Josh Hill and Jennifer Vaden also suited up for the White team.

The Lady Flames will travel to Greenville, N.C. to compete in the East Carolina Classic to kick off the season on Friday. Liberty will face the Vikings of Cleveland State in its first match of 2010. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
