Liberty Men's Soccer Schedule Released

2010 Liberty Men's Soccer Schedule


Liberty head men's coach Jeff Alder has announced the completion of the schedule for the upcoming 2010 season. The schedule is highlighted by a contest at 2009 NCAA National Champion Virginia and a seven-game home slate, which includes a visit to Osborne Stadium by 2009 NCAA College Cup semifinalist North Carolina.

The Flames will open the 2010 campaign and the 36th year of men's soccer at Liberty with a home contest against Bluefield at 5 p.m. on Sept. 1.

After opening the year at home, Liberty will play away from Lynchburg for the remainder of the month of September. The Flames will square off with Longwood on Sept. 4 in their first road match of the season. Liberty will follow that game with a trip to Lexington, Va., for the Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament, Sept. 10 & 12 at Patchin Field on the campus of VMI. The Flames will face Marshall in the opening game of the tournament on Sept. 10, before meeting St. Francis (N.Y.) in the first game of the day on Sept. 12. The tournament honors Jay Sculley ,the first men's soccer coach at VMI.

The road games continue for the Flames with a non-conference match on Sept. 15 at Appalachian State. Liberty visits Howard on Sept. 21, sandwiched between the beginning of its Big South Conference schedule with contests at Radford on Sept. 18 and defending league champion Winthrop on Sept. 25.

The month of October opens with a return of the Flames to Osborne Stadium for a Big South contest against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 1. Alder and his team will make their annual trip to Charlottesville on Oct. 5 to face the 2009 NCAA National Champion Virginia Cavaliers, followed by back-to-back conference home games with High Point on Oct. 9 and North Carolina on Oct. 12.

The Flames close out their season with five games, three at home and two on the road. Four of the five contests are Big South matches. Liberty will travel to Presbyterian on Oct. 15 and back to Lexington for a meeting with VMI on Nov. 2. The Flames will host Gardner-Webb on Oct. 19 and Southern Virginia in the final non-conference game on Nov. 2. The night will serve as Senior Night. Liberty will conclude the regular season on Nov. 6 with a Big South home match with UNC Asheville.

The Flames will Liberty will then look to capture the Big South title, Nov. 11-14, at the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer Championship at Vert Stadium, on the campus of High Point University in High Point, N.C. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
